“We should swap? Swap what?” I hear you thinking. And no I don’t mean we should swap houses, husbands or blogs or anything like that. Don’t worry!
I just want to share one of my newest favorite side effects from blogging. The SWAP.
Deze post laat mijn nieuwste swap pakketje zien dat ik van Heidi heb ontvangen voor de Thought of You Swap. Ik leg bovendien uit wat een swap is en waarom ik denk dat iedereen er veel plezier aan zou beleven om mee te doen. Want door te swappen maak je nieuwe blogvriendinnen, deel je je rijkdom en swappen biedt een geweldige creatieve stimulans.
Verder geen vertaling, sorry, de post werd een beetje erg lang. Zoals altijd als iets niet duidelijk is, mail me even, mijn mailadres vind je rechts boven.
Many of you have been doing it for years already, some of you might not have a clue what I am talking about, but for me playing the game of swap is fast becoming a new hobby.
So for the two readers of my blog who don’t know what a swap is, let me explain it real quick. A swap usually is a kind of blogparty. One person calls out a swap and asks people to sign up if they want to participate. Usually the swap will have a certain theme. Like all the different Halloween swaps you now see popping up everywhere. If you sign up you either have to buy some things or create something (usually a combination of both) that is in line with the theme. Then you send it to a designated swap partner, or to the swap host (who distributes it to the participants).
When you have sent in your package, the real fun begins. You start to stare longingly at the mailbox waiting for your return swap packet to arrive.
“Ok then, got that. And why should we all be doing this?”
Here are the three reasons I have become hooked on swapping:
1. Through swapping I have made some really good blogfriends. Creating something for someone else and looking for the perfect gift for her creates a bond. To receive a package that is put together with so much thought and attention and that shows just how much that person has been thinking about you is really special. I love the way a swap builds a connection between two women who used to be strangers.
2. Swapping is a way of sharing my abundance. I love my ‘stuff’, I collect and then I collect some more. And then in a swap, I get to give some of that overflow away to someone who has been longing for just that. And in return I receive some things that are hard to find for me.
3. Swapping is such a creative outlet. I love to be creative, have always loved it. But for so long life just got in the way and I never created anything. Now with all the inspiration blogging brings, my creativity is really surfacing. Love it! But still, if it wasn’t for the swaps that put a deadline in front of me and a wind behind me, I still would not do a lot of creating. Signing up for a swap, forces me to be creative.
What is their not to love about swapping? Bonding with other women, sharing your abundance and being creative!
I am sure that the swap veterans could give many more reasons why swapping is such a lovely part of this blogcommunity.
For the novices among us: I know participating in a swap can be a bit scary (do I measure up? Is my package interesting, beautiful, fitting enough?). I understand, I still shiver every time I sign up for one. But I do it anyway, because I love it. And if I can do it so can you!

The pictures in this post show the content of my most recent swap package. I was hooked up with Heidi from Dreams Intertwined for Stephenie’s ‘I thought of you swap’. Oh boy, did Heidi have my number! I love everything so much! She really put so much thought in the package. Heidi I have said it before, but I’ll say it again THANK YOU!!!
YEAH, let's swap!! Het is idd een geweldige manier on vriendschappen te ontwkkelen, mooie dingen te sturen en natuurlijk te ontvangen. Ben zelf ook een enthousiaste swapper. Groot, klein en ertussen in, geweldig. Misschien is het een idee om een Nederlandse swap te organiseren? Soms worden de verzendkosten naar het (verre) buitenland veel, maar een Nederlandse swap, kost max zo'n 7 euro toch? En kun je pakjes tot 10 kilo versturen!!

dood eng…er is heel heel veel tijd in gaan zitten…met plezier gedaan hoor!
maar toch het is zo moeilijk om voor een vreemde iets te maken…
En zal niet meer zo snel ja zeggen om het te doen….maar…ik zeg niet nooit nooit

Goh jij bent ook verwend zeg! Volgens mij heeft Heidi echt aan jou gedacht; dat behang, de bloemetjes, ze stonden al een tijdje op je verlanglijst, nou ja alles is geweldig! Je tipje van de sluier is ook erg geslaagd. Fijn weekend!

I would love to swap! I've been blogging for nearly a year now (though my 1st few months of blogging were for my eyes only) and just this week started hearing about swapping. I live in the US though… does that matter??

I love your beautiful things.. I love swapping too. I have met some wonderful people and friendships have developed. I have 2 bad situations happen.. very late swappers and not getting anything swapped back. Yet, all in all it is a wonderful experience. Thanks… Have a lovely weekend.
