Howdie Friends, miss me? I would like to say that I missed you but to be honest I’ve been a bit too pleasantly busy for that. I have been spending as much time with my sister as mine and her schedule would allow.
We have been shopping, revisiting familiar pleases, checking out some new ones, cooking together, did lots of eating of Dutch delicacies, and drinking Jilz, oh and we did some serious talking too.
Tomorrow she will leave for a few days to visit family and friends in another part of the country and then after she returns Friday with our other sister we will leave for New York on Saturday morning.

It has been so nice having her here. And having the time to do a lot of things together but even more so to have the time to do absolutely nothing together. My kiwi sister is ten years older then me, but we have always shared a special bond. When I was just a little kid I would look up to her and I wanted to be just as cool and beautiful as her when I grew up. Later the age difference seemed to disappear and we found out that we shared a lot of interests, like gardening, crafts and home decor.
So I guess it isn’t so strange that we did a little Fall decorating together. This was actually one of my more lazy decorating attempts. Just bringing out the apothecary vases and filling them with the fall colors of pinecones and wine corks.
If you like more elaborate Fall decorating you should check out the Fall Festival over at This Blessed Nest. But here at Songbird it is easy and simple all the way this season.
Like revamping my beloved twig wreath with more pinecones.

Of course adding some fresh flowers from my garden and some (scented) candles.
The main colors in my garden are all shades of purple and pink, so when this bright red dahlia popped up it was quite a surprise. But I think it works great in this Fall vignette.

On my little white side table I did a rerun of the first vignette I did on that little cupboard.
I really hesitated about doing that. Why is it that I (or should I say we?) feel that I need to do original vignettes? But I really liked the simplicity of the lantern with the pinecone vignette last year.
And then I decided what the heck, I liked it last year, I am liking it this year, let’s do a rerun.
Do you ever repeat a decoration or are you committed to originality all the time?
And don’t you agree that this post is brilliantly timed on September 21!

PS If you would conclude from this picture that we drink entirely too much bubbly….
……. you would be absolutely right!
……. and loving it …

stunning in every way. what a lasting impression this will have on me all day.
thank you!

So simply pretty!
Oh, I'm not against doing "re-runs." There's only so much time in a day, as I always say. And simple is always best.

I like the simple twig wreath with pine cones.
Simplicity at its best! Beautiful photos. I also have a jar full of wine corks and no I didn't drink all of them. Wine tasting day – the pourer gave me an entire bag and I love the look of corks. You are an excellent photographer.
Beautiful! I do bring out a lot of the same things every year – just like a little black dress or a trench coat, there is nothing like a classic!
I am SO glad you are enjoying your visit with your sister! What a special time!
I love the pinecones! I have a gazillion. I bring them out around the holidays. I love the simplicity of your "look." I do repeat a decor once in a while, but it seems I am always collecting new things so it does get changed up.

Beautiful post, Marianne.
I love what you said about doing absolutely nothing at times. Many people ask what J and I do at the lake and we say nothing. Some of our best days are do nothing days. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time with your sister.
I moved my blog to a new address:

Lovely, Marianne. So glad you're having a great time with your sister. I'm 11 years older than my sister and we are incredibly close.

I think simple draws me in more than elaborate, and yes, I re-do beloved vignettes a lot. So glad you're having fun with your big sis!
So simple but oh so beautiful decorated! /Therese
Perfectly timed indeed! I love all the subtle fall colours…I feel more relaxed just reading your post and looking at the pictures!
I too have a sister 11 years my senior with whom I share a special bond.
Enjoy New York – we were there in the summer – it was absolutely amazing!

I LOVE the simplicity. I am currently writing a blog about sites that have amazing ideas for Fall decorating and I included a link to your blog! Happy Fall!
I'm a new follower and I really enjoy your blog. I love the lightness and the simplicity of your decor.
Dacht ik al dat je naar New York geweest was, maar je hebt het lekker nog tegoed bofferd! Tuurlijk doen we wel eens dezelfde decoratie…hihihi, never change a winning team, zullen we maar zeggen. Maar ik meen dus ook ieder jaar andere dingen te moeten hebben tssssssss…
Love every picture…especially the pinecones…and the wreaths
