My Real-Life Bookcase Dressing
Ha, that title got your attention didn’t it. I wonder what kind of Google searches this one will bring to my blog. Yesterday I showed you the theory about dressing a bookcase, today you can all judge whether or not I followed my own lessons.
It took me a while to post this, but as you might know I got the guest room finished only mere hours before the first guest arrived. And the first set of pictures I took from this bookcase weren’t exactly up to par. So just for you I took new pictures. Can’t waste your time with forcing you to look at bad pictures now can I.
Ok then, here is the no longer naked Billy:
As you can see I combined a lot of the tips I had gathered.
There are the books in baskets….
Books organized by color…..
Decorative items added, like plants….
This one may look fake but it is actually a real one. And very easy in the upkeep. Can be ignored for several weeks and still stays green. I love plants like that. I have no idea how this one is called but IKEA is currently selling them.

More decorative items, this time ‘spontaneously’ left on top of a stack of laying books.
And I even did the trick with the spines turned to the back…

This is my Harry Potter collection. I LOVE these books but the wild coloring of the spines was messing with my theme here. Since I will not easily forget that these are my Harry books I just turned them around. Maybe I will make a cute label for that basket someday, maybe….
In the end looking at it like this, I can only say that I really like how my Billy Built-in Bookcase turned out. For such a small room this really is a large bookcase. But because it is now completely built-in and white and I didn’t stuff it to the brim, I think it just fits in that room. It gives it a nice touch without overcrowding it.

Ok one more picture, because looking at the pictures myself here made me realize I definitely broke one of the rules. Take a good look, can you tell which rule I broke? Or maybe I broke more then one and don’t even realize it. Tell me gently, please….
PS Since my last post was a bit ‘wordy’, I thought I’d better let the pictures do the talking this time. But I am sure I will have more to say tomorrow….
PPS I have been adding lot’s of beauty to my Inspiration Files. You might find some inspiration there too.
PPPS I have no idea what I am doing there, but I have made a Fan page on Facebook for my blog. You can ‘like’ me if you want…

good job Billy! (:
Looks wonderful! What rule is that? I didn't see any rule breaking. All I saw was beauty.
Looks wonderful. Hmm, I'm not sure about the rule, but maybe too heavy on top (all books) and lighter on the bottom (almost all accessories.) If that is the issue, you could switch the rainbow row of books with the shelf with the lacey bowl and flat books.
Ziet er leuk en vooral mooi opgeruimd uit. Bij mij blijven de kasten nooit zolang netjes…jammer genoeg! groetjes, corry
very nice job wonder if i googled how to stage kitchen cabinets if i would come up with something this beautiful, sighs i doubt it
Billy looks wonderful all dressed up! Your pictures could have been the model for yesterday's post!
XO,
Jane
there are rules? ohh come on….really? now she tells me!

love the natural greens thrown in the mix! beautiful!

-I like you.
Looks like perfection to me Marianne! A perfect fit for the room, as you said.
This looks great! I love all the ideas. This makes me think that I can do this and I have a horrible time dressing my shelves. GREAT JOB!!
Looks great! I read over your rules in the previous post and the only thing I can see is horizontal books with nothing curvy on top.
My bookshelves need a makeover. They are stuffed to the max. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Tammy
That just looks gorgeous! I love organizing the books my color — I always remember the book my the spine color anyway! (Except this one book that has a bright orange cover but a while spine and I can never find it because I'm looking for orange!).
I think it looks great, but maybe the foundation at the bottom rule that someone else commented on? But only maybe. I think it's amazing!

Hihi, ik geloof dat jij de enige bent, die zoveel moois uit een billy kast haalt en er zoveel aandacht aan besteed…wordt tijd dat je Ikea eens een link stuurt!
Hele lieve groetjes – Irma
Love your style of writing. I'll definitely be back. Your pictures aren't bad either! (LOVE the bookcase and I'm so inspired, I probably won't sleep tonight. See what you've done?)
Hmm, de boeken zijn even hoog! Maar wat maakt het uit, het ziet er goed uit! Ben al fan geworden op Facebook.
Psst – Marianne – I gave you a blog award. The Versatile blog award.
Stop on by and pick it up. xoxoxo
I may have to try this putting books by color. I love the way it looks in your bookcase. Marianne, you show such restraint (that we know I couldn't do) by not packing that poor thing to the hilt!
Brenda
Your Billy looks beautiful! you've done a fabulous job of displaying your books and treasures in your new built-in book shelves… just gorgeous!
Have a great day!
I love how you have set up your shelves. The only rule I can see you might have broken is having the darker things on the top shelves and lighter things on the bottom. It's easily remedied though.
Marianne , ik vind het een super mooie kast geworden , mijn complimenten !
Lieve groet ♥RINI♥

Have thoroughly enjoyed really all the posts about the Billy case
Am eyeing mine as I write this now hihi… Yours look great, love the wallpaper detail!
This looks great. You did a great job. Koodos on tackling your fears of the power miter saw. Re: the left side of the bookcase and the gap between the wall/bookcase you could scribe a length of moulding to exactly fit that space. Scribing is what my husband calls it. He lays the piece that needs to be added on a surface and draws along the uneven surface. I’m not describing it well, look it up on woodworking websites. Once again, you did a wonderful job on this Billy.
