Nice title for a post he.
Well this post should have been titled “ Facebook, I have no idea what I am doing”.
You might have noticed that spiffy looking Facebook plugin I just added to my sidebar there →
You can even like me!
It refers to the Facebook Fan Page I made for Songbird.
I hope we will have lots of fun there together.
Except I have no idea what I am doing there. I might be more ‘social-media-savvy’ than the average person, but in this world of ‘social-media-wizards’ I am like a babe.
I mean I totally get blogging. I am getting the hang of Twitter. I use Tumblr, Delicious and even a bit of Stumple Upon. Professionally I even use LinkedIn. When it comes to this social web stuff I can hang with the best of them.
Except for these friendship sites.
There I am lost at sea.
It feels like a vast ocean where I do not have a compass.
In the Netherlands Facebook is overruled be a similar site called Hyves (as in beehive). Most of my real life friends are Hyvers. I am not. I recently signed up just so I could look at the pictures of their children, but I have yet to make my first personal contribution. If ever….
I did sign up for Facebook a few months ago. All the bloggers I love and respect were on Facebook, so I made a profile too.
Some of you even became my friend there…
Must have been a boring friendship, because other than repost my blog posts I didn’t do much.
And now there is this Facebook Fan Page.
I have heard my fellow bloggers tell about the lively discussions they have on Facebook. How it is easier to interact with your readers. How friendships and partnerships are built. That it is a lot of fun.
Just one more place where women do what women do best. Hang out together and share a good laugh.
But I feel like I am drowning. Can you please give me a hand…
Reach out to me here or over there and let me know what I am supposed to do.
Would you, could you, take me by the hand and show me how to have fun at (on? with? in?) Facebook.
And maybe shine some light on where I can feel land under my feet.
Tell me what would you be looking for over at my Facebook Fan Page? What would be fun for me to do? Do you have a Fan Page? Do I know your Fan Page?
I am counting on you my dear friends!
Enlighten me!!!

I wish I could help. I am just about to shut my fan page down as I can't get anyone to regularly engage. It's become something i need to check on as it isn't set up to send email notices if anyone comments or 'likes' or whatever. I have maybe 3 locals gals who don't blog who engage on there, but they were my regular 'friends' before I had a fan page. They do read the blog, but never comment.
I don't know. It seems a bit redundant for me. Wish I could be more help!
FB, for me is the greatest of inventions. In my old life, I'd LOVE hanging out with friends and chatting for hours.
Now, my life is such that I am home with two young sons, home schooling, and my husband is retired….and home a lot. I don't hang out too much. As you probably can understand.
FB has opened up my life cyber-socially. Some of my "human" friends think it is so weird to be chatting with friends there. However, it keeps me connected as I do not have time in the day to grab a coffee at the local coffee shop. My life is simpler in some ways and more complicated – time management – in other ways. Everyone here needs me pretty much 24/7. FB allows for the feeling (whether it's reality or not???) of being in touch with those I love.
And for the blogs I follow there on FB, well, these guys/gals are becoming friends. FB opens the door to know people a bit more intimately.
I do not have my blog on FB. I couldn't keep up. My blog is a fun outlet. I cannot be too serious and devoted with it. It would not be fair to the little people and one big guy I love very much. I do follow you here and there.
Perhaps just a hi of FB from you OR what you're doing could open the possibilities of more connection. However, Twitter probably does that too.
I think too much of a good thing could drive us crazy…so…that being said…Did any of this help or was I rambling?
Either way, your blog is lovely and fun and inspiring. I think all the gadgetry out there makes us think we aren't doing enough unless we've got it in our hot little hands. I'm not judging as I sit here on my mac and will later be watching a movie on my laptop and following who's who and what's what and dreaming of my new iphone!
xoxo

Oh how I wish I could help! I too have a Facebook fan page, but never post anything. I am hesitant to like someone else's fan page because it doesn't let you do it with your fan page, it has to be done with your personal facebook account, which I don't want to mix. I am hopefully going to learn more about this on Thursday with Sister Diane at Crafty Pod. I signed up for some of her personal help sessions and this is one of the topics we are going to cover. I will keep you posted.
I'll be interested in the responses as well. I have been resisting facebook entirely. I'm happy blogging and it's all I can/want to juggle right now. Maybe at some point I'll take the plunge, but not right now. … Love all the fun photos in your post!

You could post any new products added to your shop, sales, speacial events on your facebookpage. Your fans get these posts on their own facebookpage or "wall" and this way are alerted to anything they and you don't want them to miss. I have blogs in my google reader so I don't miss anything, but some people use their facebook page like a googlereader.
I love that image of the laughing ladies on the top of your post by the way, really made me smile
Zit op Hyves (kan je daar op zitten trouwens hhhmmm) heb een FB account waar ik zelden op te vinden ben
Zal je eens bezoeken daar
Groetjes
Thanks so much friends. Lot's of useful tips already keep them coming.
Groetjes!
I use Facebook for some of the "behind the scenes" stuff that I have going on, previews of projects, or little updates on projects that don't merit an entire blog post. I feel that I get more immediate feedback from people and it's fun that way.
Your page seems to be quite active, too, so I think you're doing it right!

The conversations I have on facebook are typically with the same few people. It has allowed some people who aren't comfortable commenting on my blog (or can't since I no longer allow anon's) be able to comment on a post. I have my fan page linked to my twitter. So many times what I twitter exclusively isn't seen on my facebook but whatever I facebook is seen on twitter. It's just another way to connect. I also use it as my tumblr of sorts. I'll post on my fan page others' projects that are inspiring.
I just found your blog today and I love it! So I "like" you on FB, too, though I have to say I am hesitant to make comments in such venues as I realized if I search my full name in google any comments I make in FB groups pop up! I don't like that!
I am a Canadian living not far from you, and as a foreigner (who is painfully shy and has not made many "local" friends) it is interesting to look into your home and see what you've found/made/re-made to decorate it. I've found most Limburg homes I've been in to be rather modern and stark, and yours is anything but!
Heck, can you come to my house and help me? These European "tilt and turn" windows are impossible, and I've been staring into the black through "untreated" windows every winter evening for more than three years!
At any rate, maybe I'll run into you at the Kringloopwinkel, huh?
I have no conceivable idea. Because it is as foreign to me as it obviously is to you. I signed up for Facebook, but actually never go there. I've got all I can do to keep a blog going and nothing left over for these other sites!
