Christmas Home Tour

Good morning my dear friends, and welcome new visitors. Today is The Nester’s Christmas Home Tour, so please come in and have a look around at my all new (as in totally changed from previous years) Christmas décor.

Christmas Wreath 4

Every house needs at least one wreath I believe. This is our front door wreath. I made a Fall pinecone wreath and then glamoured that up for Christmas.

When I decided that I was breaking my twenty year long tradition of red and gold Christmas decorations, my transformation to new, simpler, nature inspired and handmade begin in my living room with my ‘faux-mantel-‘ vignette.

I used a homemade twig wreath that has served me so well all through 2010 added a pinecone garland, scattered some small silver balls among some mercury silver candle sticks and added some small pinecones to that mix for good measure.

Christmas Mantel Vignette 10

This mantel set the tone for the rest of my Christmas decorations: simple, natural, sparkly and elegant.

Christmas mantel

Of course that meant my tree had to match this look. And I didn’t have a single silver or white or natural ornament for it. So I made them, and as a result I know have this lovely all white and silver Christmas tree.

White Christmas Tree

All the ornaments are handmade by me (with some much appreciated help from My Love). Let’s take a closer look shall we:

Homemade Ornaments

Wooden stars in various sizes and wooden hearts. Doilie ornaments made out of cut up crochet runners from the flea market, and a garland of lights that have been decorated with paper trees.

Of course a true Songbird Christmas would not be complete without at least one little vignette.

Tin Vignette

For this one I turned regular leftover vegetable tins into lanterns. Sparkly, shiny, and simple, this years favorite triple S signature.

And this weekend I added some more decorations to my back patio too. For outside I still love adding some red because it stands out so wonderful against all the grays, greens and browns that makeup my garden now.

And this is how far I have come with my Christmas decorations this year. I am quite sure I am not done yet. Too many ideas still going through my head. But crafting just for the fun of it with the knowledge that everything is already love as is, is wonderfully relaxing and just as I like it.

I love that you made all the new ornaments for your tree rather than saying you went out and bought all new ornaments for a different tree. My favorite things though are the veggie can lanterns! I remember seeing those in a book/magazine in my childhood and wanting to make them. I also like that you're not "done". I'm not either. :) Kelly

    Hi,

    I love all your pictures.

We exchanged emails about a year ago regarding blogroll images that do not show up in other peoples blogs. I was wondering if you got that resolved. I've been googling but haven't found a solution yet. If you know the fix, can you email me? Thanks so much. biochemdude@hotmail.com
