My Beloved Twig Wreath ~ one last time…

Howdy doody bloggy friends, can you believe how fast January is moving along? We will have to be careful this year. If we blink too long we will have missed most of 2011 and we will be decorating Christmas trees again.

I must say picking up the daily grind again and getting in an everyday groove wasn’t easy this week. And the downright crazy weather we are having here in the low country didn’t help. For the first three days it was still bitter cold, with a good frost each night. It made all the leftover snow and ice really tricky, so I needed all of my concentration to navigate myself to work on my bike each morning. And of course on the very first working day of this year I fell flat on my face. I was doing so well, biking along carefully and dodging all the icy bits, thinking “I think I am gonna make it” because the entrance to school was only a few more meters away. When I spotted my colleague who was walking her new dog. I wasn’t even waving but my concentration wavered and there I went. Fell right before her feet. She said nobody had ever laid her/himself at her feet before, she liked it….. Glimlach

Next few days temperatures here went straight up, they are definitely Spring like now, but of course that meant all of the snow melted in one big swoop. And now my town is on the brink of being flooded (well not really, water is really high but everything is under control). So after all the excitement of the excessive snow, everybody is now in fits over the excessive amount of water. Never a dull moment….

Anyway I survived the first week, and ended it with some good old fashioned decorating too. Because look:

My twiggy wreath has undergone yet another transformation. Probably it’s last because it is hanging on our front door now, and therefor mildly exposed to the elements and definitely more vulnerable to our abuse because of the opening and closing of the door.

Who could have thought this wreath would be such a loyal friend. It had a rocky start when I constructed it out of the leftover garden clippings. But it came through for me all year long. She moved right along with me through the seasons.

Spring

Twigg wreath vignette

Eggs, feathers and a nest made her all Spring like.

Summer

Industrial Ladder 4

With a bunch of white flowers, she was dressed up for summer and the perfect touch to my industrial ladder vignette.

Fall

Fall decor 6

Fall meant pinecones of course. Those different tones of brown really suited her.

Christmas

Christmas Mantel Vignette 11

At Christmas she was dressed up with some spray snow and lights and she fitted right in, in my Christmas mantel vignette.

And now for January I have dressed her up with some greyish (fake) Eucalyptus leaves. It was such a quick makeover and although I had my doubts at first if it would work, I think it did.

Winter

Winter Wreath1

Those Eucalyptus leaves really look amazingly real (from a distance that is).

I like that touch of green for this time of the year. Gives that promise of Spring. Yet at the same time the grayness of it all, of the leaves and of the branches puts it right in the season of winter as well.

Yeah, my twig wreath has served me well, through what in essence have been five seasons.

I hope to enjoy her for a few weeks more on my front door, before I will have to say goodbye to her.

Marianne,

Isn't it great when one wreath can transform throughout the seasons! I have a fake white bud "base" wreath that I've used since the fall. I'm looking forward to updating it all year long.

Thanks for sharing your wreath. It has given me some ideas.

  4. What's the harm in letting it be a 5 season wreath? I think it looks absolutely lovely! Keep using it!

You have gotten a lot of mileage out of her. She looks grand in greyish green. The weather is a bit nutty here too. I took out my warm fuzzy bathrobe!

I love it!!! Recycling at it's finest. Sorry about the tumble on the bike. I can't imagine trying to ride a bike on a snowy or icy road. Just riding a bike would be a feat for me.

  12. I love a good multi-tasking home decor item! I have a grapevine wreath that I have reincarnated a few times as well! Thanks for stopping my my blog!
