I decided to start a new series: Meet the Euro Blogger!
I live in Europe at the tip of one country with a couple of other countries only a stone’s throw away. I have always felt so very lucky and fortunate because of that. As a young girl I grew up watching television programs in a foreign language, except it wasn’t foreign to me at all. And every summer my dad would hook the caravan up behind the car and we would drive across borders and over mountains to find the cutest little town besides the most beautiful lake to camp out. I am a Euro girl inside and out.
Europe has such a wealth of culture, history and style and I personally think that that has rubbed off on some of the Euro Bloggers I love and admire so much. I thought I’d start introducing some of them to you because, even though sometimes the internet world, and especially the home decor niche, might seem to be dominated by North-American bloggers, there is so much more.
So here I am showing off some of my beloved fellow Euro Bloggers to the world.
And where better to start than with one of the first blog friends I ever made…..
Let me introduce you to fellow Dutch woman, Elly from MyEverydayThings
Elly is a sweet soul with an amazing sense of style. She has this special knack for creating the most beautiful decorative displays and vignettes. She can combine the most mundane, the ordinary and the everyday and make it come alive.
In the little white cottage Elly calls home, you won’t find many new items. Almost everything is a thrifted find, because she has that special eye to find treasure among trash. And of course the talent to see potential in everything, like this lovely combination of chicken wire in an old frame to make an inspiration board.
For Dutch standards Elly has a small house, which means that by US standards it is downright tiny. But you’d never tell. She uses every corner of her house and gives it so much love. And her talent for combining neutrals with splashes of color makes her rooms seem so much more spacious than they really are.
This is her craft corner in her kitchen. And that little space gets used to the max. Because Elly is a gifted artist who has been published in various magazines. She does many things like stitchery and sewing, but I think her original talent shines especially through in her mixed media art.
One of the things I am always so astounded by – and a little jealous – is how she always immediately finds the perfect spot for her thrifted treasures. In Elly’s house things don’t end up in the basement (like in somebody else’s house whose name I shall not name but it starts with an M and ends with an e) where they lie forgotten. No she finds a home for her treasures. A home that makes it look as if it belongs there, as if it has always been there.
And then they get used too.
Look at her kitchen shelves all dressed up for Christmas.
Speaking about Christmas. There is no one who does the ‘moving through the seasons’ better. There isn’t a special holiday or lovely occasion and Elly will use it to decorate a special corner, craft a lovely craft and add some special atmosphere to the house.
Look at this winter display. So beautiful in all its simplicity.
And she doesn’t stop indoors. Her garden is picture perfect too. (well the part she shows us in the photographs, but we all do that, don’t we).
I would never get away with it with my modern art loving guy. But look at this shelf in her bedroom. So lovely, so romantic and even though there are a lot of elements it is still very toned down and elegant.
She recently gave her bathroom a makeover. I know you want to peak behind that door. And you should because there are ruffles waiting for you there…..
And if I still haven’t convinced you that you should pay Elly a visit than look at these cuties……
Go on, I know you want to go over there and spill some loving on these two.
I found Elly in my first blogging days. I will be following her for as long as she’ll let me.
Go marvel at her talent, and tell her I said ‘hi’.
Love,

Hi ladies,
Thanks for everyone who let me know they couldn't comment. I had changed my settings to embedded comment form so we could reply on comments. Seems like that isn't working. So I changed it back to the old ways.
Let the commenting commence…..
I think it is a great idea that you are featuring some of your European blogging friends and their homes. I really enjoyed seeing Elly's home and her beautiful artwork! And thanks for the link!
XO,
Jane
Leuke serie!
Groetjes Annemiek
Oh yay! I am so glad that you are doing this feature! I love European blogs so much, and I find it hard to find good ones! Love this feature!
