One for the team…

Howdy bird lovers! What’s going on in your quarter of the world?

This part of the world, Europe that is, is in a sporting frenzy. Soccer is on! As in the European Championships.

The Dutch are playing too. Although not as good as  was hoped. I am not that much into the whole soccer game, but when the craziness starts it rubs off on me too. So instead of packing up my whole house in orange plastic, or donning myself with an orange outfit, I did what I do best. Create a little corner in honor of the games.

Orange Flowers

Another example of what I have started to call my take on “light decorating”. A bunch of flowers, some books and shell sphere to tie it all in. Oh and some vintagifying in Photoshop.

Do you think it will help?

I mean the team really needs some help. They lost the first game to Denmark, so basically they have to win every next one to stay in the tournament. I am not optimistic. Good thing I won’t lose any sleep over it either.

But still, it’s nice to share the excitement with everybody. I remember that from the World Championships two years ago when they made it into the final match (and lost ouch). I quite got caught up with it then. So much so I ran up a fever. Remember?

Things sure got crazy then. I even got up at the brink of dawn to photograph my childhood town’s square completely covered in an orange carpet.

Soccer does that to people. At least over here…..

Anyway. They are playing again tomorrow. And they have to win……

Ah well, soccer, it so isn’t my thing. And on any other day neither is orange. But I am kinda digging this little corner anyway. It’s bright and cheery and like a burst of sunshine. And we definitely could do with a bit more of that. It’s like Fall over here, with lots of wind and rain falls.

So are you at all into sports? And decorating in honor of sports? And is the sun shining where you live? Yes? Oh send some of that over to us please….

  1. Another lovely vignette! Orange isn’t my favorite color; however, perhaps because we’re seeing more orange because it’s the color of the year, it is growing on me.

yes it is, isn’t it. I have seen many uses of orange I have really liked this year. But I doubt it would ever be a favorite color of mine. It is just a bit too screaming loud for me. But I do have a soft spot for coral, and that is like a whispering orange, isn’t it.

  2. Marianne~

Thank you so much for this post!! My father and mother are both from Europe and my father played soccer there and here in the States when he came over~ I just lost him this past Feb. and found out today his sister who still lives in Hungary passed away…This brought a smile to my face~

Soccer and Europe always a good combination.
Sorry to hear about your dad. I am always thinking of my dad as well whenever soccer is on. He used to be such a big fan of the game.

  3. I grew up watching my dad coach little league Baseball and Soccer in the off seasons… Soccer is fine to watch, but Baseball!?!!! I like watching. I don’t follow the players and know their ‘stats’…but when the championships and the World Series rolls around… I HAVE TO WATCH (or listsen)
That is how it is with Baseball… I can listen on the radio or have it on TV and be doing something else, and when the announcer is giving the play-by-play.. I can follow it pretty well.

But– I can do without it too! …Kind of like orange.

    Go Texas Rangers!

Oj I remember those Sundays too. One tv in the house and my father claimed it all day and night to watch soccer on the Dutch, Belgium and German sports shows (and if he could find it on the British as well). I have had a soccer trauma for years because of that.
I can imagine that baseball is even worse. But at least you can get a lot of things done while it is on.
And I like that analogy between soccer and orange. “they both have their place and use but I can do without” LOL
