I have mentioned here many times, that My Love and I share many things, but not our fashion sense when it comes to dressing up our home. The differences have mellowed over time, or better we have found a way to compromise and we have found a middle ground.
But my love’s ideal home would have a lot of black in it, preferably leather. No accessories except for sleek lamps, only real modern art on the walls and a sculpture here or there too.
I guess it is no secret I’d love to live in a beach cottage with an industrial flair.
The combination of us both is most clearly visible in our living room.
And yet it works…
….. at least that is what I think. It is not totally me, it is not totally him, it is US and that’s why I/we love it.
But I am still not a lover of modern design…..
So you can imagine my reaction when I was approached by Fashion for Home to check out their modern design furniture. My first instinct was to say ‘heck no, they have asked the wrong blogger……’.
But my guy got wind of that email and jumped up to check it out. He loved the site and the furniture and home decor options. And in spite of myself I saw myself drawn to it too.
So my love and I had some fun on the site together. We each browsed Fashion for Home and gathered our favorite pieces. I made them into mood-boards.
This is My Love’s ideal home office:
Predictable huh! Black leather, chrome, sleek lines, stark colors in the art-work and no frills.
This is how my guy would live if he hadn’t fallen in love with me
.
My mood-board turned out quite differently.
Still my industrial coastal cottage style, but a little bit more pronounced than in our home at the moment. Lots of natural materials, soft furnishings and feminine with an industrial flair.
Good thing my love and I have found our compromise because I could never be happy in a house decorated true to his style. And I guess he feels the same the other way around.
The mood-boards are quite different don’t you agree? And yet both are entirely made with the options Fashion for Home presents. As different as our tastes are we could both find modern furniture that we loved and I guess we could find enough pieces there that would qualify to live in OUR home. (And that’s why I was very happy to add Fashion for Home as one of my blog sponsors. I can recommend them to you).
So how do you stand on the modern vs vintage home decorations? And do you and your partner share similar tastes (lucky you) or does he give you free range (even more lucky you), or do you live in his ideal home (so sorry for you)?

My style and my husband’s are very different; therefore, like you, we compromise. He also doesn’t like change and thinks once you decorate you’re done. No need to change anything ever again! Yikes!
Oj, that is a difficult one. I don’t think my guy cares for all the changes either. That’s why I try to limit the changing to certain corners and details like the pillow cases. I don’t have much room for moving the furniture. I wish I did though, but I am sure my guy is pretty relieved about that.
Lovely Marianne! Nice blending of your different styles.
xox
Thanks! We ‘blend’ pretty nicely together
For us… our budget limits the free range that either of could have. We are different in our tastes…he likes natural *light* wood, me I prefer wood that is stained darker, or even painted. He thinks painted wood is TABOO!
He likes less knick-knacks– but I’m finding he has a preference for them – if they are mid-century modern!
He likes leather– dark or even dyed bright colors?!!!??? I don’t get that. I like neutrals, cottons and soft chenilles, and faux suede (or even animal hides at times…though I don’t own them)
I was pleased to learn a couple of years ago… he likes Victorian type couches or settees.
We’re all mixed up! LOL…
but that’s how we fit together i suppose.
love your mood board, I’ll have to go and check out their site- Pat
LOL you must be able to make a pretty interesting moodboard about his and her decorating style too then. But I guess it is all about how you make it work, and it sounds as if you guys have found your common ground too. Go check out the site, I am sure you’ll find lots of things you both will like.
