Pink Roses and Peonies at the Nest

Hello sweet ladies,

Wow I am glad to be back here. You see, I have been sick this past week. Yup, summer is not quite here yet, but I had the summer flu. It came fast and furious and took me out of the game for five days. The sniffles aren’t over yet, and my energy level is way low, but I am on the mend, and I expect to be in full swing within days now.

I am sure you can understand that I haven’t done much all week, except sleeping a lot or cuddling up on the sofa with a blanket and copious amounts of hot tea. But thankfully I had just brought in some fresh flowers from the garden, so I had something nice to look at.

Those peonies smelled so strong and lovely that even I could smell them, in spite of my non-functioning nose.

Yes, last week was the height of peony season here. All of my bushes were in full bloom, and so were the roses. I always hesitate to cut the peonies, knowing that they only bloom once a year.

But like always I was glad I did. Last weekend when I cut them, the weather was nice and they were doing great outside. I felt really guilty cutting them. But not for long. The next day we had lots of wind and rain, and the peonies that were left on the bushes did not cope very well with that. They were gone within days. The ones in the vases though lasted a whole week.

And since I wasn’t going outside I got to enjoy them 110% inside.

They are now a memory. But a memory that I can prolong and keep because they will stay forever young here on my blog.

So what did I miss? What have you all been doing?

Have you been smelling the roses?

Love,

  3. Glad you are starting to feel better. The peonies and roses, and your photos of them, are so pretty! I’m glad you were able to bring some outdoor loveliness into your home.

Yes, those peonies were a true pick me up. And when and if my energy returns I am good as gold again.

  4. Being sick in summer isn’t fun at all. My husband has had the same thing and I’m hoping that I don’t catch it. Your peonies are so pretty, really they are the frilliest flowers. I have a bunch of peony photos up today, too.

I’ve had a very busy week – our youngest daughter and her husband returned from 9 months of travel in Europe, and our eldest daughter gave birth the next day – somewhat early. I’m hoping this next week is a little more ordinary, although all the excitement has been fun.

I hope you continue to feel better!

Wow that is wonderful news about the baby. I hope mother and child are well. Enjoy your new ‘responsibilities’ as a grandmother.

  5. The pictures are truly beautiful! I’m glad you’re feeling better.
