So Fall has officially started in any way imaginable. On my calendar fall is five days old already, meteorologically I think we are almost one month into Fall, my mantel has been decorated so my decoration season has kicked off and the scarfs and sweaters and boots have been pulled out of the back of the closet.
Fall is here. The new season is here.
And it got me thinking. About how time goes by so fast. And about how often I have already wondered where did a month go? Where did a season go? Did I experience it? Live it.
Thinking about how, especially as a blogger, I speed through the seasons. My Fall decorations are barely up, and I am already planning my Christmas theme and bookmarking Spring projects on Pinterest. In one way blogging has made me more aware of the seasons and the different holidays in a year, but always in such a hurried way.
I have decided that is was going to be different this Fall. I want to live the season not (only) decorate it.
So I have started a bucket list for Fall. 15 things to do before December 1 (which to me is the official start of winter).
At first I couldn’t think of 15 things to do, so I posed the question to my Facebook tribe and they came through for me with loads of good suggestions.
So I finalized it down to this:
Songbirds Fall Bucket List 2013
Fall Bucket List Numbers 1-5.
Fall and leaves, a pretty obvious combination, and it jumping in a pile goes with my desire to play more.
I desperately want to learn how to bake my mom’s famous apple pie. It is a difficult recipe and so far I have not dared to try it. This Fall is going to be the year I do it.
One can never have enough scarfs…
Fall must be the most photogenic season of all. And I want to stretch my photography wings more. So color capturing it is.
We don’t have pumpkin patches, or apple picking orchards, or hay rides here. But we do have some Fall markets and Fall gardens that I can visit. I am going to make sure I catch a few and get ‘my pumpkin’ going.
Fall Bucket List Numbers 5-10
We have a fire pit, well actually a fire basket, but we don’t light it very often. This is the season to build a roaring fire in the garden, and so we will. I bet you the man is all up for this, guys and fire…..
I love cider. It is my favorite alcoholic beverage. But so far I have never drank hot cider, let allone hot spiced cider. But Pinterest is bursting with recipes, so I am going to try a few of those, see which ones I like best.
We don’t have a fireplace. So I’ll have to go outdoors for this one. I’ll either have to find a nice cabin in the woods somewhere that has comfy seats next to a fire, or invite myself to some friends who do have fireplaces. But I do picture myself all warm and rosy next to a fire after a long Fall walk…..
I often make soup. Love soup. But I’ll go in search of the most comforting ‘soul-food’ soup I can find and then I’ll make it and smell up the house with its fragrance.
I think a need a new blanket. Well I don’t actually need it, but I sure want one. I nice and comfy one, soft and light, and warm and fluffy. Yeah I definitely need a new blanket….
Fall Bucket List Numbers 11-15
Okay taste test lots of new Hot Chocolate Recipes. Do I really need to explain why this is on the list?
Watch a Fall movie. I did a little research on this since I couldn’t come up with any specific Fall movies. And then I found this list. And so far Hannah and her Sisters, Persuasion and On Golden Pond have made it to my short list. I don’t think I have actually watched any of those before. High time don’t you think.
Ah yes, what would Fall be, without a little collecting. There is always room for more pine cones, and chestnuts are so very autumny….
Will this be the year I actually plant bulbs. It is on my list most years. But I am the worst at actually doing it, I regret it every Spring. So maybe this year….
And lastly, of course, go outside, hike, admire the color of the leaves, smell the air, feel the sun shine, jump in some puddles…
I got a little over two months to work my way down this list. I am looking forward to it!
