Feathering the nest {bedroom decorations update}

Good day my sweets! Happy Monday to you. I have been feathering the nest. Quite literally actually, as in I have added a bunch of feathers to my nest bedroom.

Look at this bedroom decorations update, my Juju hats have found a new home:

That bare wall over my reclaimed wood headboard was a sore point for a long time. This is the focal point of the bedroom, straight across from the door in which you enter, or look in. The headboard was doing a good job at providing some interest, but that wall was just too big for the headboard alone. Now it has some company and I think they go well together.

All those neutral colors together make me smile and happy. And I think the bedroom is the best place to smile and feel happy ;-)

I got some new bedding too. Did you spot it? I found it a couple of months ago. I really did not need any more duvet covers. I’ve got duvet covers spilling out of the linen closet as it is. But this one stuck to my fingers anyway.

It was dirt cheap, so that kind of helped to talk to my conscience… (and get that raised eyebrow of my Love down again)

But most of all it was flannel. I haven’t had any flannel bedding since I was a little kid. I had missed it

I remember my flannel sheet from childhood vividly. It was yellow, with flowers all over it. I loved it dearly. I loved it all the more the longer I had slept in it. When I think back I can still recall that feeling of disappointment when I went to bed and my mom had changed the sheets… The horror! My sweet, soft, velvety flannel sheet was in the wash and I had to survive sleeping with cotton. LOL

Clearly as a child I had not learned to appreciate the allure of clean sheets….

I do now! Especially when they are clean flannel sheets….

These are roses from the garden. Frost is predicted here, so I snipped all the last ones off real quick. That bush just kept making flowers, not as lush and bountiful as in summer but still, there were roses to be enjoyed until January.

I know these ones won’t last that long, but boy, do they look nice on my nightstand.

I am so happy with this little bedroom update. It is finally feeling like it is coming together, and I might actually finish it soon.

Then again, I am already plotting a rather intensive makeover too….

Ah well, it is keeping me off the streets….

Too bad it is only Monday morning, I  feel like crawling back in…..

So what have you planned for this week? A little bedroom decorating in your future too?

And do you have flannel sheets memories?

Love,

  1. i would love to make this, but have no idea which feathers to buy. please share what size/kind etc

  2. Looks great! I have TONS of projects to do. With us being snowed in for a total of 6 days this month, I’ve gotten a lot done. You are right, it does keep us off the streets and I always say it is a good thing to be addicted to. Ha!

    • Best addiction in my book! I wish we had snow days here. Sounds wonderful to have some extra unplanned days off. Even when it snows, we are all expected to show up :-(
      Happy snow days to you!

  3. Hi Marianne,
Your bedroom is lovely. The juju hats look amazing above the headboard. Enjoy your roses while you can. There is nothing like fresh flowers to make a girl smile.
    Have a Beautiful Day,

  4. thanks so much for your reply, not sure how i missed that…thanks

  5. Hi Marianne, I LOVE FLANNEL!!! I sleep with flannel sheets all winter here and with three quilts on top. The top quilt is flannel too, which I just finished this last fall. We have been sitting in a frosty winter wonderland with 28* F as the high and 18* F as the low. We haven’t seen much sun so between the white frost and grey sky it has been very monochrome here. I love that you are still enjoying your roses, and your photography, wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Blessings and smiles, Emilou :-)

  6. I love the Juju hat accent on the wall above your bed. I never had flannel sheets as a child but as an adult we have had. It’s been fairly warm here this winter, thus I haven’t put them on the bed, at least not yet. Also I really like your photographs–interesting angles.

  7. Your ever changing decor evolving and we get to see your creative process at work! I like how the Juju hats ( wow and that was from a challenge and then took the blog world by storm!) add to your room now that you have your wooden headboard. And then your flannel choice brings it all together!! I’d forgotten the lamp–and it too is pulling your room into a new direction of subtle emphasis on whites with neutrals.
I slept on flannel sheets a little bit but not growing up where we had blizzards…but I’d buy them for my children for they felt so cozy!! Sweet memories.
Ahhh roses!! I had one left but it got lost in the January pruning before I could rescue it but I now have camellias that I like just as much. Do they grow where you are?
I’m wondering what overhaul you will be doing and where it will be. I believe I’ll just have to wait and see! :-)
    Have a good week!!!

I had shoulder surgery today so I will be spending the next few weeks making list of things to do when I’m released. You have some wonderful ideas. Thanks for the blog.

  9. Oh, bravo on this room! I love everything about it. What a perfect space to end and start each day. Where did you find your bedding? Or did I miss that mention somewhere in the post? Thanks :) -Misty
