Slim fitting black sweater with ‘faux’ white blouse
I am not much of a fashion queen, but I do like my clothes to ‘do’ something for me. Preferably hide my imperfections perfectly.
I love the look of a pullover or cardigan over a blouse, especially black over white. But I do not like the frumpy look it creates, especially since I am, ahem, well endowed as they say.
I have seen lots of these black pullovers with fake white collars and cuffs, that give that perfect line I so need. But how on earth do you wash these things? You can’t throw it in with the whites for obvious reasons, and if you wash it with the blacks, that white collar will turn grey in no time.
Then I saw this one in an airport shop.
Simply beautiful, and the best thing is that collar and those cuffs are removable. It is from Wolford, but follow that link to see how much it costs. So out of my price range.
So I did a hack.
Take one plain black pullover.
Cut of a collar and some cuffs from one of your plain white blouses and attach them with snap buttons.
Now that’s more like it. But then you are left without a plain white blouse. And every woman needs a plain white blouse. It is a fashion necessity, I believe.
So sew a new one.
And then go wild with your stash of buttons, because plain white is, well just plain, and we can’t have that.
And yes, I did fake it a little. That blouse has pins in the back all over. I do not quite have my nieces figure, and if you are new here and have no idea what I am talking about. I made my dress form myself and my niece modeled for it. You can read about how I made my vintage dress form here.

I have a similar shirt/sweater set that I got years ago at Nordstrom Rack. You are so right about less bulk. Yours is nice because you can also wear the sweater plain if you should choose. I really love the buttons on the white blouse. So very anthropology.

Super!

I recently learned about something that makes it possible to wash mixed colors together. It’s called Color Catcher and it’s made by Shout. They look like a dryer sheet. You throw them in the washer in a mixed color load. It prevents color runs. The color ends up on the sheet instead of your clothes. I use it for quilting fabrics (100% cotton) and it works great. You have to follow the directions though or you might have a problem though.
