Good lord, what a good weekend I had. After just announcing that for me Fall had started I fell right into the perfect Fall weekend. We went to the Müllerthal in Luxembourg. And it was magical!
Luxembourg is fast becoming one of our favorite weekend getaway destinations. We have been there four times in 6 months and at least one more visit is planned for this year. Luxembourg is one of the smallest European countries but it is packed with beauty. For us it is only a two hour drive away, so perfect for a quick – let’s hit the road – weekend.
This particular weekend was all about nature and being active. Ouch, maybe we took the being active a bit overboard because this office body is still hurting a bit. But it was so worth it. Müllerthal might very well be one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. It is green with woods and meadows, has beautiful hills and valleys, lovely little towns and most of all sports some awesome magical rock formations. Truly, walking there was a cross between being in hobbit land and in a disney fairy tale forest. You’d expect a magical creature to show up at any moment.
The rock formations form deep canyons and caves that actually made me happy to be rather small so I didn’t need to fear getting stuck. I sucked my stomach in nonetheless 😀
The smaller rocks and the fallen trees are covered in thick, green moss, that just adds to the mystery.
It was one of those weekends that truly make me realize how much I love Fall. The sun was already lower, making the light hit the leaves just right. The woods were starting to change color and the ground was already covered with a soft carpet of leaves. I saw so many perfect mushrooms (but no little leprechauns) and the weather was sweet but with that freshness in the air that makes breathing so easy. At one spot we walked passed a field lined with poplar trees. They were shedding yellow leaves in the wind. All these little leaves caught the sunlight making it look like a slow shower of golden snowflakes. I couldn’t get enough of it.
We hiked the woods on Saturday and biked around on Sunday. Two days of being outside and moving that body. Two days of time together with nothing else to do but to enjoy ourselves. Two days of letting the world do its thing while we were just there.
A weekend like that makes me all the more determined to not let time just pass, but to make sure that time is lived and enjoyed. It is so much easier to be in the moment, to relax and exhale, and to enjoy life when you are active and doing something you truly love with the one you love. It is too easy to get caught up in work, chores, plans and projects and to forget to take time to stand still and appreciate the moment.
Until the next time….
