Goodday sweet people, aren’t you all looking lovely today. It is January 8 already! Can you believe it? The first week of this brand new year is already behind us. If this is the speed at which 2018 is gonna rush by I’d better start paying attention or I will have missed it before I can say hoopladoda.
I’ve made my new years resolution! It is short and easy, only as long as an inspirational quote of the day. I am looking at it as I type this, standing there nicely on my desk on my cinema box in my office.
With this year gaining momentum I figured I’d better quit the reminiscing and looking back and I’d better start to look ahead. As always I’ve got heaps of plans for the new year. Finishing the makeover of this new home of mine is a big part of that. So I am calling productivity my middle name from now on and I am saying goodbye to good old procrastination for good….
Ha, if ever, I wish. No I guess I’ll be battling with my procrastination demons this year too, just like all the other years. But nevertheless I want to gitter done, to stop making project avoiding movements, to tackle the dreaded UFO’s (unfinished projects), to whip myself and this house in shape. In other words I am determined to GET STUFF DONE!
Which brings me to my inspirational quote of the year.
The words are right in my face on my office desk in my cinema box: as a reminder to quit my time on FB and get stuff done; as a kick in the booty to stop dreaming on Pinterest and get stuff done; as a nudge to get off my rear and start to get stuff done.
Let’s face it, I know what that stuff is. The to-do list is so long that I don’t need to write it down in order to not forget something. Anything I can think of to do is a good thing because there is so much of it. If I just do at least one thing each day towards my goals then in the end I will have finished a ton of work and be so much further ahead than I am now. So there you have it my inspirational quote of the day for all the days this year.
I hope that by keeping my new years resolutions this simple I will actual be able to live up to them. In past years I have done the whole goal setting thing. You know what I mean, writing down a list of long, mid-term and short term goals and than breaking that down in all the steps/tasks that need to be done to reach those goals. Heck I have even attempted to write those goals out as SMART as I can (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely), but that kind of detailed work never worked. It felt so good as I was doing it, as if the work was almost done by just working out in detail what needed to be done. When in fact of course the whole process itself was a procrastination act of major proportions.
So no more of that this year. No long lists, just a very short one. I’ve only designated one room to each month to focus on. That’s it. Plenty to do in all of the rooms. Now I just need remind myself of my inspirational quote and then live by it: GET STUFF DONE.
So how about you. Got a motto or word of the year? Are you into the goals setting thing or do you not make any new years resolutions at all? Got any tips to actually make it happen?
