Summer Home Tour

Looking for inspiration to freshen up your home for summer? You’ll love these easy ideas you can totally do in your home too. Enjoy my summer farmhouse home tour

Welcome to my home. If you are coming over from the wonderfully junk filled home from Donna, you might not have realized it, but you have just hopped over an ocean. Yes that is right, you have arrived at my nest located in the Netherlands. This Summer Home Tour  just got a lot more international 😉 .

I am so excited to be part of this awesome line up of real women showing off their real homes that they have created with their own two hands. Come to think of it, I don’t know exactly how I made that cut…..
….. Thanks Gina from The Shabby Creek Cottage for inviting me to play along.

Summer Decorating in the Living Room

This is my living room. It also functions as family room and dining room (European houses generally don’t have those). It is where we hang out most of the time. So it is fitting to start my summer home tour in this room.

If I’d have to describe my style it would be Beach Cottage with a Bohemian flair, and definitely with a vintage, industrial touch. I love painting everything white, and adding soft, natural and muted colors with an occasional pop of color.

And I pop in a little – ever changing – vignette wherever I can….

Like on the window sill….

I have turned our bay windows in a decorating spot when I changed our curtains into double-layered roman blinds. Now I have another spot to create a little vignette 🙂

My little side table is also a favorite spot to do a little seasonal decorating.

Or just on a table with apothecary jars filled with shells and sea stars.

My decorating style definitely leans to the easy, simple and light. I love light decorating……

Pink Pelargoniums on living room table

On the other side of the room, is our big dining table. Where we eat, read the newspaper, craft and generally hang out (not all at the same time, although sometimes…..).

Behind that table is my big hutch that got a major makeover with milk paint just last month.

Summer Decor in Guest room/ Reading Room

Next stop in this summer home tour is the guest room.

There are not many rooms in my home that I would call finished. None actually. But some are more finished than others. My first big makeover project was turning a really small room into a guest room/ reading room

I love that tiny, light filled room, and I always give it a slightly new look as we move through the seasons. It is all summer in there now.

I piled pillows unto the bed, turning it into a wonderfully comfortable spot to sit with a book, and take a secret nap while the man watches soccer….

I did lots of projects for this room. Like this suitcase nightstand, and turning an ordinary Ikea Billy Bookcase into a built-in.

While we are on this floor. Let’s peep into our bedroom shall we.

Summer Bedroom Decor

bedroom with blue and white bedding and a wood headboard

Star of our bedroom, and definitely the main focal point is our repurposed wood headboard that I build. I wanted a romantic and soft bedroom but I also wanted to make sure that it would be a bit masculine and guy-like.  This rugged headboard ties in both his and her decorating styles beautifully. I can easily go to town with my bed linens without our room ever becoming too much of a girly space.

I can even get away with using vintage crochet plaids on the bed……

In the corner next to the bed is resides my DIY Reupholstery Curved Back Chair ( the first one), it is standing underneath my sentimental bus sign.

And opposite the bed is my linen closet

We actually had to saw that one in half to get it in this room…..

And then I painted her and nobody will ever know….
………….. (except that I told the world about it here…..).

She houses a little surprise inside.

Okay I have got one more room to show you before I let you go on your way.

My craft room up in the attic. This is my domain and it is where I like to dabble in the many (too many) hobbies I have. So let’s take this summer home tour up to the attic.

Just last year I ‘finished’ this room and I did lots of projects for her.

Craft Room Decorating Ideas

Like paint a maid’s closet with chalk paint. Give that little desk in the corner a totally new look and made another postal bag chair

On the other side….

I built a storage unit from pallet wood, updated my already hacked Ikea cupboard and built a radiator cover.

And I spruced up all my little containers and storage thingies to make them tie in with the new color scheme. I love this craft room. I really should spent more time in there…..

And that concludes my part of the summer tour of homes.

I hope you had fun, visiting my home, and please feel welcome to return any day.

If the weather is nice we can share a cuppa next time on the back terrace …..
