Today’s road trip takes us on a visit to Esche sur Sure in Luxembourg.
By now you must have gathered that traveling and exploring has become quite a bit of a hobby of mine. And I love sharing that hobby with you. I always imagine us sitting around the kitchen table with tea and cookies and chatting about our latest adventures and sharing photos of trips and visits we made along the way. So let me take you back to Luxembourg for a nice day-trip, visiting one of the most charming villages I have discovered.
Luxembourg has fast become one of our favorite travel destinations for a weekend get-away. It is only a two hour drive from where I live and the landscape is beautiful. Lots of great hiking and cycling all around. But somedays you just don’t want to be that active, you just want to leisurely roam around a little village, eating ice cream and marveling about the charm and beauty around you.
Well have I found the place for you. Esche sur Sure is the place to be for a relaxed day of walking around, while being stopped in your tracks at every corner because you just have to take a picture of this perfect Kodak moment.
The little town is draped around a hill that has a very picture perfect castle ruin on top. The roads are sloped and wind through the village and the river Sure just adds the perfect tranquil atmosphere.
We were there on a day when the sun wasn’t hiding a bit and it all still looked so pretty.
Yeah that’s me on top of that hill, admiring the ruins of the castle. It wasn’t much of a hike to get up there, and the views were just stunning. It isn’t hard to imagine why the rich and famous of days galore choose this particular spot to build themselves a nice little abode.
The town houses are almost all white with grey roofs. Now with that color combination all around who is still surprised that I fell in love. The color palette of Esche sur Sure is right up mss Songbird’s alley! 🙂
The cafe du chateau was heading in the chateau’s direction, as in it was in a bit of a ruined state. But its former glory was still shining through and amazingly almost all of those colored glass panes were still working their magic on the awning.
Gosh, I feel so rich knowing that there is so much beauty in this world to discover, and so much of it is right around the corner for us to enjoy!
