House Lanterns Light op my Home

Good morning dear friends. Vacation is officially over :-( . It is Monday and my day job wants me back, the house is completely de-christmastized, the alarm clock is back into action and I am actually wearing shoes again.

The only thing in that list I am not sorry about is putting away the Christmas decorations. As much as I love the sparkly lights I couldn’t wait for my house to feel airy and free again. So I was actually quite early in taking the tree down this year. I have been enjoying the feeling of empty it left behind.

I have a bit of tradition that after the Christmas decorating frenzy I long for clean, simple and preferably white decorations. This year is no exception. Look at my three little house lanterns. Doesn’t get much simpler than this.

I bought these three iron lanterns in Fall, but Christmas stole their spot on the blog. They are back now. January is such a grey, dull month here that I really still need lots of candle light to cozy up my days and evenings  (our weather is still basically in Fall mood, with lots, lots, lots of rain and grey skies, winter hasn’t arrived yet).

And these three lanterns work wonderfully in making me feel better. They came from a discount drugstore, and at half price I got them for a steal. So I splurged and bought three. They look so much better in a row.

I guess that’s it, for this first Monday in the new year. A bit of candle light to add warmth and light to your day…..

And if you want to see some more of my white January decorations. Here are the ones from 2010, 2011 and 2011 number 2 and the one from last year 2012. Enjoy the inspiration!

So how is January treating you so far? Still going strong with your new year’s resolutions or have you fallen of the wagon already? And is it winter in your parts?

Let’s cuddle up together with some hot tea and chat….

Love those white lanterns. White in January just seems to fit the more austere season after Christmas. Thanks for answering my question about French curtains/Roman blinds. I’ll look forward to seeing how you do yours!

I love the look of those white lanterns! Your post sure hit the mark today, I feel much the same as you do about the Christmas decorations, as much as I enjoy putting them out, it is also enjoyable to pack everything away again and start with a clean slate. In fact, I did just that today and it was so refreshing! You are so right about the lights … I’m in Germany and the weather is just very dismal lately so candles are a must! The best to you in the New Year, have a good start!

Hi Marianne, I made your coconut cake today for my anniversary!!! Haven’t tasted it yet but I did take some pics. Also, I believe in the translation it should be 1 cup of flour, not 1/2 cup, as it was quite soupy at first. I’m a little slow on knowing how to add pics so please be patient with me and I will surely try to get them to you. Also, I love your white, but, I am in the middle of winter here (lots of snow, lots of white), and when I moved into my current home, 11 years ago, everything was glossy white. Had a tough time waiting to paint, as I like to have the windows open when I do. Your home does look wonderful and so inviting, I would love to share my cake with you.

Believe me, I’ve been kind of wanting to fall off the wagon on some of my resolutions, but I’ve been able to plow through so far!

I’m going to keep my eye out for white stuff. I’ve been wondering what I can do with this place now that the Christmas stuff has been put away.
