My Real-Life Bookcase Dressing
Ha, that title got your attention didn’t it. I wonder what kind of Google searches this one will bring to my blog. Yesterday I showed you the theory about dressing a bookcase, today you can all judge whether or not I followed my own lessons.
It took me a while to post this, but as you might know I got the guest room finished only mere hours before the first guest arrived. And the first set of pictures I took from this bookcase weren’t exactly up to par. So just for you I took new pictures. Can’t waste your time with forcing you to look at bad pictures now can I.
Ok then, here is the no longer naked Billy:
As you can see I combined a lot of the tips I had gathered.
There are the books in baskets….
Books organized by color…..
Decorative items added, like plants….
This one may look fake but it is actually a real one. And very easy in the upkeep. Can be ignored for several weeks and still stays green. I love plants like that. I have no idea how this one is called but IKEA is currently selling them.
More decorative items, this time ‘spontaneously’ left on top of a stack of laying books.
And I even did the trick with the spines turned to the back…
This is my Harry Potter collection. I LOVE these books but the wild coloring of the spines was messing with my theme here. Since I will not easily forget that these are my Harry books I just turned them around. Maybe I will make a cute label for that basket someday, maybe….
In the end looking at it like this, I can only say that I really like how my Billy Built-in Bookcase turned out. For such a small room this really is a large bookcase. But because it is now completely built-in and white and I didn’t stuff it to the brim, I think it just fits in that room. It gives it a nice touch without overcrowding it.
Ok one more picture, because looking at the pictures myself here made me realize I definitely broke one of the rules. Take a good look, can you tell which rule I broke? Or maybe I broke more then one and don’t even realize it. Tell me gently, please….
PS Since my last post was a bit ‘wordy’, I thought I’d better let the pictures do the talking this time. But I am sure I will have more to say tomorrow….
PPS I have been adding lot’s of beauty to my Inspiration Files. You might find some inspiration there too.
