Todays decoration is a little decoration. It is a small, petite, minimal, tiny, itty-bitty, mini decoration project.
And I love it.
It all started with my recent trip to the garden center. Big and large seems to be a trend there. But I also detected this section of mini plants. Tiny versions of the bigger ones. There were these miniature succulents that were just waiting for me to start decorating with them.
These itty-bitty plants spoke to me, the resonated in me, I loved them, so I took them under my wings.
Must have been their tiny presence in the midst of the loud chaos their bigger brother and sisters created. They stood their ground, but they seemed overwhelmed.
Maybe I liked them so much because they reminded me of something. Of the smaller me, the youngest child in a family of big brothers and sisters. The smallest girl in class who always was the last in the line at gym class. BTW did they do that in your gym class too? Have everyone stand in order of length when teams were chosen? I usually was among the last to be chosen, no surprise there.
I remember that when I was very young, Calimero was my big hero. Do you know Calimero? The itty bitty penguin that was only half freed from his egg, I loved him. He was my very favorite children’s program.
And at the end of every show I would join him in saying:
” They are big and I is small and that is not fair, oh no! …”
I could so identify……
And so in memory and honor of my childhood friend, my little plants came home with me.
I just re-used my numbered pots again – although some of those pots have lost their number – and lined them up on the ledge of my painted hutch.
Those little pots have been one of my easiest and at the same time most successful projects. They are so easy to use in my decorations. They have shown up here numerous times through the years. If you are wondering what to do with yourself today, I’d suggest paint some little terracotta pots white, and stick a black number on them. You can thank me later, as you take them out time and time again when you are decorating.
And don’t you agree that that ledge on my hutch just begs for a lineup of little plants?
Yeah I think so too. Decorating with miniature succulents, gotta love it.
So, what’s up in your neck of the woods? Ever been inspired by a childhood hero in your decorating?
