Well hello my lovelies, here I am again, after my more than a week’s absence it feels good to be blogging twice in two days (and I have more up my sleeve this week so keep checking in, because there is more to come).
Remember when I gave my agenda a little makeover? I paper-collaged a very boring red agenda into something I was hoping would be a little less boring and more beautiful. Well I showed you the result and you either were too polite to comment on it or just too darn friendly to tell me the truth. It wasn’t that good a makeover was it? In fact, I think it was that bad, that you have to go to the old post to see it, because I sure as a dog’s bad breath am not going to post that picture a second time.
I was itching to give my agenda another makeover but was lacking in inspiration and then something truly wonderful happened.
Look what I found in the mail. The very book I have had in my ‘wanted list’ in my sidebar over there → for months now. I was given a free copy ofFast Fabric Gifts to review, yippie-a-yeah, I sure did a happy dance over that one. Free books, it doesn’t get any better than that!
Well and it is a craft book after all, so there is no point in trying to write a review if I didn’t craft anything from it. I decided to start easy, and chose a simple project to just copy. I chose to make a little heart, my Love was cramming for a big exam last week and I thought he needed a little extra heart courage.
This heart made out of metal wire and jeans cloth, had just enough manly touches to make it an appropriate gift. Cute isn’t it?!
Well that warmed me up for a bit more ambitious project, because when I saw this notebook cover I knew my ugly madeover agenda was getting another makeover.
This is the original.
Lovely as is, but not exactly my color scheme and the dimensions of my agenda required a little altering of the design too.
So this is my version.
Ah much better, I proudly display my agenda on my desk now, hoping for everybody to ask me where I got it ( and yes people have already asked me, yippie again).
So I guess I can truly recommend Sally Southern’s new book Fast Fabric Gifts. This is what I really like about it:
- Lovely range of projects.
- Very clear and easy instructions with lots of pictures.
- Both easy and more difficult projects, so suitable for beginning crafters as well as more seasoned ones.
- The projects lend itself easily to being adapted to your own style and preferences.
To be really honest, if you are a veteran at sewing crafts and already own a fair share of craft books, this book might not really add a lot to your expertise or collection. But if you are anything like me and always need visual stimulation to get anything done and simply want or need someone to tell you how to do something, this book truly is lovely. And because of the beginner’s projects in there I think it is in fact a lovely book to gift to a young girl who is discovering needle and thread or to use when you craft together with your kids.
And really want to hear some positive news? I actually got two books, so I can give one away! (I am sure as a cat’s furry coat, not giving away my own copy, just so you know).
Leave me a comment and you are entered (just make sure I have a means of getting in touch with you). And for each Facebook, Twitter or blog mention of this giveaway you can come and enter yourself another time.
Now tell me honestly, what did you think of the first makeover of my agenda?
