Last week I showed you a more than ordinary office chair. You know the kind basic, black and boring. But I wanted a comfortable office chair that I could adjust in height and that could easily swirl between my desks. So when I found one for next to nothing I took it home with me.
One more look to remind you just how ugly it was.
Tada! This is how it looks now.
So much better don’t you agree. And it wasn’t difficult. All you need is lots of spray-paint, some nice fabric, a staple gun and a strappy guy with determination. (ok in this picture something has happened to the legs, they really are all white, the shadow- and light thing does something funky to them).
The hard part was separating the cushions from the bottom and back part. Those cushions were snapped in place so there were no screws to unscrew. It took some blunt force and a few harsh words from my love to get them loose. I did encourage him with words as “I know it can be done, I saw it on the web, but is is okay honey if you can’t do it, I’ll figure something out”, that got me a mean look and him some extra willpower. But it worked (and he still loves me 😉 .
After that it was a breeze. Prime with a stick-to-anything primer. Empty two cans of white spray paint on it. Staple the fabric around the cushions. Reassemble.
Really it was so easy that when I find a second one for that price, I am going to do it another time. (I will probably have to touch up the spray paint one day, because I always sit with me shoes on the legs, but that will be easy enough, I’ll let you know how long the spray paint holds up).
Ok and as a bonus I am going to show you my mirror makeover. I thought a white distressed look would look good on it, and I think I was right.
So did you play with any thrifty finds this week?

Everything is terrific, I'm partial to your chair. I slipcovered my office chair, but it looks a little shabby, even for me. I might have to get brave and try your idea.

You've inspired many of us with that office chair makeover—keep up the great work!

You've done it again! You've turned something ordinary into something extraordinary! You could set up a shop selling those, there's a real gap in the market for attractive office chairs. They make them look so hideous!
Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality says
Very cute, Marianne, what a great new look for your chair!

You made it look so so easy to do this. I would almost be brave enough to try it

Nice chair make over!! It looks like a ladies chair now. Beautiful mirror make over, too. I love those curvy mirrors, I have been looking for one for a while now. Hugs, Cindy S.

Amazing what you can do with a not so interesting chair. It is perfect for your workspace. Regarding your question, yes I use my silkstockings, but it isnt very often. I have so many I can use and so many I can save in its original envelope. Most of them I bought for more than 10 years ago. It was much more easier to find them then. And the quality is fab. You wont wear them out in the first use. Hugs / linnea-maria

Groetjes.

Hey you! 🙂 Well that definitely looks better than an ordinary boring office chair! Loads of work required, but well done 🙂 And yes, the mirror looks better with a coat of white paint. I've been also playing with spray paint lately, but nothing to show yet and forgot to take "before" pictures anyway… doh.

What a GREAT idea!! I'm about to redo the cheapo desk in our bedroom, all in white. And I have a huge black leather office chair that I was wondering what in the heck I could do to make it fit into my brown & white room. Well, now I know I'll paint it white!! We'll see how well the spray paint holds up to tushies b/c ours is all leather, no fabric!
Thanks for the inspiration!!
