Hi ladies, and welcome to all my new followers who are gearing up for the new year. It is wonderful that you all are planning so many good things. I have a feeling 2011 is going to be a very productive year on which we will look back as ‘the year I got my act together’. At least that is what I wish for us all…
I have started to compile my list of projects and plans for this year too. And one thing that is definitely high on the priority list is our Front Door.
From a distance it may look all right, but it is one of those shiny plastic ones, with ugly relief glass and an even uglier handle. When we first entered this house we both agreed that that door would be one of the first things that would have to go. Well as it turns out it is going to be one of the last things. Oh and btw I did carefully crop out THE MOST UGLY LITTLE ROOF that is over that door. It is so ugly that I still haven’t found the courage to post it here.
Well the plans for my front entrance are forming in my head. I only have to take some time to let our bank balance catch up with those plans and then I can attack it.
I am dreaming about a black door. A black wooden door. One like this.
It’s from a London house and it has been haunting me ever since I took that picture.
Or maybe this one:
I have been dangling pictures like this in front of My Love for some time now. But so far I have yet to convince him. Both on the wooden door and on the black. But I feel that I am gaining ground. I guess I’ll just have to put on some more hours helping him with the writing on his big thesis for his study or maybe cook him his extra special favorite dish, or dish out some other favors….. But that black beauty is coming over here….
In the mean time I thought maybe a little change would tie me over. Because take a closer look at that picture of my front door again.
Now let’s zoom in a bit:
A few years ago I hand painted our house number. Not centered, not pretty, and not really something to be proud of. But it was in my pre-blogging days, when templates and spraypaint, or even fancier options were not on my mind yet. So maybe if I try to tie over the time before I have my beautiful black door with a new number sign I would already feel a teensy bit better about our front entrance. What do you think, would it help. I am thinking about something along the lines of the ones I saw in France, when we vacationed there in 2009:
Those blue and white enamel signs were everywhere. Like in this picture:
I can’t even remember if I took that picture for the street artist, for that lovely pink chippy wall or for the enamel sign.
But the next picture I definitely took because of the sign.
Sigh, those French signs are so lovely. I see signs like that on Flea markets sometimes, but usually not with the right number, or not for the right price.
Maybe I’ll make one myself?
I have had this tutorial for handmade faux enamel tags in my Inspiration File for some time now (tutorial by Gail from Can’t Stop Making Things). I just might have to give it a try if I can find the right supplies.
So what color is your front door? And do you have dreams of it being a different color? Is your door made of wood? And how often do you have to paint it then? And do you have any inspiration pictures of little door roofs you’d like to share? I am still compiling a file on those.
