Good evening dear friends. I am still cooking with Jamie and reclaiming my kitchen. With some new kitchen ware at hand it was time to rearrange my open shelves and put them to good use.
I got rid of anything that was purely decorative, hardly ever used or that was simply taking up too much space. And replaced it with often used china and lots of containers too hold my cooking supplies.
I started using these chalkboard vinyl labels last year and I am still loving them. So easy to change the label when I change the content and if I am careful they will (re)stick even after going through the dishwasher. And even when the dishwasher kills them it only takes me a minute to cut a new one.
I am using all these different kind of glass jars and I like the somewhat eclectic look of them all mixed up and together like that. I had a couple of old jars in the basement I didn’t use because I had grown to hate the wooden top. A quick paint job with chalkboard paint makes them fit in quite nicely again.
And this former pickles jar was already perfect to be repurposed, it already had a black cap. I fear that I am going to be selecting what to buy at the grocery store by the packaging, if it has a black cap and a nice shape it might just come home with me….
Seeing all of my cooking supplies in the open like that has already helped me in actually using them. Just like any other supply if I don’t see it, I forget I have it. But with my clear glass jars all out in the open our salads have been topped with mixed nuts, coconut went into a curry-like dish, and a craving for chocolate chip cookies will have to be fulfilled soon.
I love how the re-arranging of my shelves has already made my cooking more adventurous.
Today we tried another 30 minute meals recipe from Jamie. This time it was grilled cod. We had to adept the recipe a bit to accommodate what we had on hand, and we didn’t quite make it in 30 minutes but it was really good and we are so enjoying eating so many new recipes.
And here you have our kitchen clock.
My Love, for whatever reason doesn’t like clocks in the house. I hate that but so far have not convinced him of the need for a proper clock on the wall. When I spotted this teeny tiny alarm clock in Stockholm earlier this year I bought it for my Love as a tease. It actually works quite well in our kitchen. Even though it is tiny, our kitchen isn’t exactly big either so I only have to turn around to see the time.
Don’t you think my bowls look good in their new home?
Yeah me too. I think they were made for shelves like this.
So that is another bit of my kitchen reclaimed for cooking. Let’s see what’s next…..
