Hello sweeties, as I was showing off my once more restyled living room yesterday I realized I have never properly introduced you to the other side of that room. So why don’t you all just come over for diner and we’ll have a meal together while we chat about home decorations, the power of white paint and other such life changing subjects. Please feel welcome in my white ‘dining room’.
As you can see I took the hutch with me as I moved. I think it looks even better in this place than it did before. It is slowly becoming an extension of my kitchen space (the kitchen is opposite the hutch, behind me, I was standing in my kitchen when I took this photo) and less a showcase of pretty things. I like that.
My home is pretty typical for a Dutch home. One fairly large space that is used as sitting room/ family room/ dining room/ breakfast room. With a half open kitchen next to it. There is a big window at the front and at the back to catch the sunlight.
I live by myself in this family home, so I consider myself very lucky with such a spacious place to live. Although I do realize that in comparison to some of the bloggers family homes I see on the internet my home would be considered very small in American eyes.
The table was a ‘craigslist’ find. It is a round table for four that I can extend into an oval that seats four to six and once more to seat 6 to 8 people. It is still waiting on its transformation. I love the versatility of this table. What I do not love about it is that it isn’t stable. When you lean on it, the table leaf tends to move with you. I haven’t found a proper fix for that (if anyone out there knows one please tell me). But as long as it serves me well through diner parties, game nights and as a work horse for crafting sessions it can stay.
Those French doors were not here originally, I had them put in. Best decision ever. I love them to death. Opening them up on sunny days brings the garden in and now during this cold and dark season they add a ton of light into my home. I really did strip this house after I bought it. Nothing has stayed untouched and I am so happy that slowly but surely this house is turning into the vision I had for it when I first started stalking it on the internet. But these French doors definitely are my favorite part of the transformation, as is the accompanying change in the kitchen (reveal planned for another day rather soon).
On the agenda for 2018 is making sure that those doors actually look out onto something nice, because my garden is still a disaster zone.
So there you have it, another little part of my home revealed, my ‘dining room’. What do you think about it so far? Is it too white for you, or could you imagine living here yourself? And are you one of those people living in a home where you have several rooms for different functions or is your house more like mine with one room to do it all in? I’d love to know, let’s chat about our homes.
Hi Marianne, To these American eyes, your home looks lovely and comfortable, and I’d love to sit there with you chatting with a nice cup of tea. We live in a small home (602 square feet–sorry can’t convert the size for you) 🙂 with one main room for everything except sleeping, bathing and laundry. I think your hutch is lovely, as well as practical. I’ll look forward to seeing your kitchen soon. Oh, and yes, those French doors are great–I love lots of natural light.
HI Marianne. I love your white rooms. Suits you perfectly. Me, I love color and my home is full of wood tones, brown leather furniture and a lot of colorful art on the walls. Books everywhere in all colors. I do love bringing natural light into my home. I have lived in an all white home before, just not me. Glad you have found what fits you and so excited for your new garden area. Blessings and smiles from Oregon USA
Hallo M. Mooi allemaal. Mijn keukentafel (nog van Austerlitz) heeft hetzelfde principe. Heel handig, maar ik heb altijd moeite gehad om eens een mooi tafellaken te gebruiken. Hoe doe je dat met een ovalen tafel??? Groetjes Ans
