Good evening my sweets. I have caught up with the times, I have my Fall mantel ready. Yes, still September and I am transitioning already. I know, that most of you have been there for weeks already, but I am glad to not lag behind with my Fall mantel decoration this time round.
Ok without further ado, here she is:
As you can see I went for a light and natural color palette this time. Lots of greens, blues, whites and a hint of brown. And still a light touch of the nautical.
I fell in love with this light color palette for Fall. I really don’t feel like bringing in the darker, moodier colors this year.
I found this great grower of pumpkins in my childhood home town. They had a lovely selection and for a steal. I love being able to buy directly from the growers instead of going through a ‘garden’ center. Quality and price is so much better when you cut out the middle man. So I splurged and bought lots of goodies, without even knowing what I ‘d do with them.
And then it sort of happened. Without a plan I started to replace the summer shells in this old wooden box with the smallest pumpkins and gherkins. I don’t think I even planned to keep them in there. I just wanted to have a container for them until I figured out what my plan was.
And then I never made a plan….
And those ‘fruits’ looked so good together I kept them. And then I realised my ‘theme’ was born. Because I was really digging this greens and whites together.
But there was something missing. It was a bit bare, even my Love noticed and said my Fall mantel decoration didn’t look finished (he normally hardly even notices when I have put up a new mantel decor).
So after sleeping on it for a night, I thought about this:
The empty frame used to hang in my craft room. And the book with the botanical prints was one of my first flea market finds after I had started blogging. I had never forgotten it, but neither had I found a use for it. Until know.
Torn out pages, some masking tape to stick it on the wall, and that empty frame.
The perfect backdrop for my Fall mantel.
And those sea glass floating balls, where my gift to myself this summer. I thought their colors really matched with the greenish/blue pumpkin. So they got a place too.
And I never removed the driftwood garland. It does such a good job of hiding an ugly pipe in that corner.
Add in some candle light and you have a my Fall Mantel of 2012.
Yeah I can live with that…..

Yes aren’t they! I have had that bundle with the prints forever, can’t think why I never used it before.
I’m lovin’ your soft fall colors. They really are the colors of the earth (taupe and green) and blue gray for the overcast fall sky.
Yep! Fall is so much more than brown, yellow and orange. I am looking at a grey sky with a blue undertone as we speak. Thanks for the mantel love!

Wow, Marianne, that is just beautiful! I never would have thought of doing this, but it is inspiring me to go with a lighter look for fall as well. I may wait to get all of the earthy tones out until Thanksgiving, Thanks for sharing your lovely mantel.
