Looking for DIY boho Christmas ornaments that bring cozy, creative charm to your holiday decor These boho ornaments are easy to make and use materials that you already have in your stash.

Every year I like to add a few new DIY ornaments to my collection, and this season I decided to go for a bit of Boho Christmas decor, because I love natural textures, soft whites, and a touch of shimmer. The result? A cozy Boho Christmas tree filled with a bohemian vibe, lots of charm, and that perfectly imperfect handmade look I love.

These boho ornaments are handmade right here in my home, using materials that where already lingering in my craft room. I wanted a boho Christmas tree that looked like a million bucks, but that actually didn’t cost me a cent. So I made these easy DIY boho Christmas ornaments on the cheap using key rings, beads, and leftover yarn.

Why I Love Homemade Ornaments

Do you buy new ornaments for your tree every year?

I hear it is a bit of a thing now, to completely deck out your tree with fresh and new decorations each year.

To go from pink and purple one year, to gold the next.

Each year a different theme and a sparkly new tree.

I see it happen in front of my eyes when I wander through the Christmas section at our garden store.

People with carts full of every kind of ornament and tinsel and garland. Enough to fill a huge tree with readymade bulbs and bells.

It’s not my thing, really.

I am the sentimental type. I like revisiting old ornaments and decorations.

Especially the homemade kind.

The ones that have gotten a bit smudged on the edges,

or with stains and spots,

with chips and dents. I like those the best. They show off their age and that they have been with us for a long time.

They have become special and treasured.

Another part of me loves new and sparkly too though.

To add in a bit fresh and in-style.

So I only add a few new ornaments to my collection every year. Preferably homemade. Because that just makes them extra special.

This year I added a bit of bohemian flair to my tree.

I spent an evening playing around with yarn and tinsel, with beads and pearls, and with rings and wire.

And I came up with these tassel boho ornaments. It’s an easy DIY project.

The Making of My Tassel Boho Ornaments

One chilly evening, I gathered a pile of yarn, a few metal rings, and some leftover beads from past projects. I didn’t have a clear plan — just a desire to make something relaxed and pretty. Within an hour, I had a handful of tassel Boho ornaments that looked like something you’d find in a boutique.

They’re the perfect blend of laid-back Boho Christmas decor and handmade tradition. The texture of the yarn, the shimmer of a tiny pearl, the silver thread that catches the lights — they bring warmth and movement to my Boho Christmas tree.

You don’t need to be crafty to make them either. If you can wrap yarn and tie a knot, you can do this. It’s a simple DIY ornament project that anyone can enjoy, especially with kids (or grandkids).

Materials You’ll Need For Making These DIY Boho Ornaments

There are lots of materials you can use to make ornaments like this. Just go on a hunt in your craft stash, and I am sure you’ll find plenty. But for reference, here are the things I used:

  • Yarn in natural, white and silver tones
  • Small metal rings, key rings and metal wire
  • Beads or pearls
  • Scissors
  • Gold or silver thread, or tinsel
  • A bit of patience and Christmas spirit

These are all easy-to-find materials that keep the project cheap and achievable, perfect for a handmade and Boho Christmas decor style.

How to Make Tassel Boho Ornaments (Step-by-Step)

  1. Tie yarn to the ring. Cut yarn about 10–12 inches long, fold it in half, loop it around the ring and tie it.
  2. Make tiny tassels. Loop yarn (10-12 inches) around cardboard. Tie the loops at the top, and cut at the bottom. then slide them through your ring or hoop.
  3. Make ornaments out of the tassels. Pull the top of the tassel through some beads with wide openings, or pull a key ring through the top of the tassel.
  4. Add beads and details. Thread pearls or wooden beads through the strings for texture and shine. Stack metal rings and attach them with pieces of wire.
  5. Finish with a touch of tinsel. Wrap extra strands of gold or silver thread or tinsel for that perfect Boho Christmas tree sparkle.

Decorating My Boho Christmas Tree

This year I started decorating slowly, one evening at a time. My tree this year is mostly white and natural with touches of silver and gold. The tassel ornaments hang softly among my older keepsakes: my no-crochet doily ornaments, a few glass baubles I’ve owned for decades, and some sweet felt Christmas angels I made years ago.

That mix of my new DIY Bohemian Christmas ornaments and my old favorites is what makes my home feel so comfortable during the holidays. It’s not about perfection; it’s about memories.

The rest of the living room will follow.

My Christmas deer head will be on the sideboard, and my walnut wreath centerpiece will be on the table.

The fresh smell of Christmas will come from my homemade Christmas floral arrangements

I am sure I will end up filling up some more corners of my home.

Maybe I’ll even have another homemade project in me. Maybe not.

We’ll see.

Life is crazy and busy, especially this time of the year.

And I want to enjoy Christmas. Like really enjoy it.

So let’s remember together: Christmas isn’t about rushing to perfection — it’s about slowing down, making things with our hands, and enjoying the sparkle of small moments.

  1. What a great variety of tassel ornaments. I like the different designs and how each one is unique. The wooden bead one reminds me of an angel, I love it!

  2. I’m a bit of a scrooge. I am always so disheartened about all the Christmas “stuff” and decor that will eventually end up in a landfill that 3 years ago I got rid of just about everything except a few special keepsakes. I donated my tree and all the ornaments and other decor and just have a simple evergreen garland on the fireplace and a wreath on the door. And I have to say I’m much happier around the holidays with less clutter and fewer things to both take out and put away, AKA MORE FREE TIME! I know this isn’t a common feeling and I understand the joy people get from decorating, but for me, it was always more of a burden than a pleasure.

    1. Hi Jenberry,
I completely understand. I am going for more simple and for less stuff too. I keep my Christmas decorating relatively low key, and most of my decorations are ancient. But it is my favorite time of the year for decorating fun, so I will never go fully minimalistic in december. But in January….. 🙂

  3. So creative and cute!

  4. I love these Boho Tassel’s. So creative and pretty! Adding to my Christmas round up. 🙂

  5. These tassel ornaments are just up my alley. I love a boho style. Especially on a Christmas tree or wreath.
I hope you have an amazing Christmastime.
