Looking for ideas for homemade Christmas ornaments? You will love these tassel boho ornaments that are so easy to put together.

Christmas tree with tassel boho ornaments

Do you buy new ornaments for your tree every year?

I hear it is a bit of a thing now, to completely deck out your tree with fresh and new decorations each year.

To go from pink and purple one year, to gold the next.

Each year a different theme and a sparkly new tree.

I see it happen in front of my eyes when I wander through the Christmas section at our garden store.

People with carts full of every kind of ornament and tinsel and garland. Enough to fill a huge tree with readymade bulbs and bells.

It’s not my thing, really.

I am the sentimental type. I like revisiting old ornaments and decorations.

Especially the homemade kind.

The ones that have gotten a bit smudged on the edges,

or with stains and spots,

with chips and dents. I like those the best. They show off their age and that they have been with us for a long time.

They have become special and treasured.

Another part of me loves new and sparkly too though.

To add in a bit fresh and in-style.

But my frugal and thrifty upbringing has taught me to not go on a yearly Christmas shopping spree.

My longing for simple living and not adding too much stuff to my life made me decide on my four Christmas boxes rule.

I have two large and two small containers for Christmas decorations. And I have to fit it all in there. Four boxes for all my ornaments, lights, garlands, mini trees, and stars. It has to fit. So if something new comes in, something older needs to come out. (oh I don’t include the faux Christmas garlands, wreaths and small trees. They have one big tub of their own).

So I only add a few new ornaments to my collection every year. Preferably homemade. Because that just makes them extra special.

This year I added a bit of bohemian flair to my tree.

I spent an evening playing around with yarn and tinsel, with beads and pearls, and with rings and wire.

And I came up with these tassel boho ornaments. It’s an easy DIY project.

I feel I don’t even have to write up a full how-to. Anyone with even one crafty bone in their body can follow along with what I did by just looking at the pictures. If you want more details, I have added some tips to the video above. It will help you figure out how to make these tassel boho ornaments.

If you know how to make tassels, you are halfway there.

Just add rings, and pretty them up with beads and tinsel.

These ornaments are easy, simple and pretty cheap.

But they have already found a warm place in my heart and to me they look like a million bucks.

My tree is only halfway decorated yet. I still feel like it is so early to go full out on the Christmas decorating.

I think I’ll be adding bits and pieces slowly. Taking my time. Enjoying the process.

Like most years, my tree will mostly be white, with some silver for glamour.

Natural colors and materials will surely make an appearance too.

I hope it will have the boho, beach, glam Christmas look that I am going for.

My Christmas deer head will be on the side board, and my walnut wreath centerpiece will be on the table.

The fresh smell of Christmas will come from my homemade Christmas floral arrangements.

I am sure I will end up filling up some more corners of my home.

Maybe I’ll even have another homemade project in me. Maybe not.

We’ll see.

And I want to enjoy Christmas. Like really enjoy it.

Be in the moment.

Savour it.

Not stress about it.

Uncomplicated, undemanding.

What a great variety of tassel ornaments. I like the different designs and how each one is unique. The wooden bead one reminds me of an angel, I love it!

I’m a bit of a scrooge. I am always so disheartened about all the Christmas “stuff” and decor that will eventually end up in a landfill that 3 years ago I got rid of just about everything except a few special keepsakes. I donated my tree and all the ornaments and other decor and just have a simple evergreen garland on the fireplace and a wreath on the door. And I have to say I’m much happier around the holidays with less clutter and fewer things to both take out and put away, AKA MORE FREE TIME! I know this isn’t a common feeling and I understand the joy people get from decorating, but for me, it was always more of a burden than a pleasure.

      Hi Jenberry,
I completely understand. I am going for more simple and for less stuff too. I keep my Christmas decorating relatively low key, and most of my decorations are ancient. But it is my favorite time of the year for decorating fun, so I will never go fully minimalistic in december. But in January….. 🙂
